O.M.P.M. Composite
OMPM is active in tool design and manufacturing for CFRP parts from more than 20 years, for aerospace and automotive sector.
OMPM focus is mainly in:
1.Bonding tools for autoclaves
2.Bonding tools for LRI
3.Bonding tools for RTM (light and heavy)
4.Drilling/machining tools and templates
5.Assembly tools (both mechanical and room temperature adhesive technologies)
Bonding tools for autoclaves and assembly tools
As follow a brief overview of some tools designed and manufactured at OMPM plant
RTM tooling design and manufacturing
The technologies focused on RTM tooling are:
1.RTM tools design, functional, mechanical and thermal.
2.Design and integration of overbraiding tool in RTM tools.
3.RTM process know how and simulation.
OMPM has full capabilities for solid modeling and FEM analysis to develop a tool design optimized in terms of stiffness and weight considering use of material like aluminum, steel, invar and carbon fiber composites. Moreover OMPM has the capability to design the heating and cooling system performing FEM thermal analysis of the tool, considering material, shape, resistance position and thermal exchange
OMPM has experience in designing and fabrication of dismountable overbraiding mandrels with different materials including composites with foam core.
OMPM has the know how to design the tool to optimize the resin path taking in account all the above requirements handling parameters with hand calculation or usage of numerical simulation (MOLDFLOW).
Composite manufacturing R&D department
Actually OMPM introduced a manufacturing R&D department to support the composite research projects. The department supports also the series production.
The specialties of this dept are:
1.Prepreg technology.
2.Resin infusion technology.
3.Light RTM.
4.RTM.
5.Bonding.
6.Drilling.
7.Profiling.
R&D projects and process developed
Through participation to R&D SCIA project, OMPM has developed the LRI process to produce the pressure bulkhead are representative of the current configuration of the pressure bulkhead of the nose wheel well of the new Finmeccanica regional turboprop.
The LRI process developed by OMPM in SCIA project used to manufacture pressure bulkhead composite panels consist of dry fiber skin infused cobonded with pre-cured stringer.
OMPM Composite facility
To perform composite tools fabrication and composite process development in OMPM will be shortly installed plant (clean room and autoclaves) according to this lay-out.
Taking advantage of its composite development facilities (clean room, autoclave, oven…etc…), OMPM has the capabilities to perform the pre delivery functional test of the LRI/RTM tool, like:
1.Temperature mapping.
2.Leak check.
3.Resin injection test
With the capability, if necessary, to implement modifications to the tool to meet requirements.
